UP Diliman Defends Accounting Title

Philippine Duplicators Inc. sponsored the 7th Nationwide Search for the Outstanding Accounting Students of the Philippines on 05 December 2005 at the Century Park Hotel. At stake were prizes ranging from Php 45t for the group category to Php 175t for the sponsoring school.

Seven schools participated in the group category, coming from all over the Philippines such as University of San Carlos, Cebu Institute of Technology and University of Sto. Tomas.

Each 3-member group was presented with the same case facts, and then after two hours, was expected to display a non-audio Powerpoint presentation, as well as report their recommended business plan, after which the panel of judges, headed by Ms. Bless Pestano of Pricewaterhouse Coopers Isla Lipana Co., subjected them to a 10-minute question and answer discussion.

The UP College of Business Administration of UP Diliman proved to have an advantage because of its method of training their students with daily case analysis, a method that has resulted in UP winning first place in the group category for the past six years.

As part of their preparation for the contest, the three representatives from UP, namely, Karina Bonifacio, Luis Sixtus Esquivias, and Gilliane Roselle Say, were required to do extra work by doing additional case analysis on top of their regular school workload.

The UP faculty joined hands in helping them out, from the senior staff such as Dean Erlinda Echanis, Arthur Cayanan, and Marie Therese Agustin to the junior staff comprised of Daniel Vincent Borja, Jude Doliente, Jocelyn Trinidad, Dani Rose Salazar, and Pedro de Ocampo Jr. Head coach Michellene Cruz coordinated their efforts.

Their hard work paid off as the UP Diliman team captured the top plum for the 7th consecutive year with ease, and brought home prizes totaling Php 55t in cash and a Php 175t email copier from sponsor Philippine Duplicators Inc., the exclusive concessionaire of Gestetner.
