Powerbooks No Picture Taking Policy (Ire)

Last July 16, 2005, after buying my Harry Potter 6 book, I asked a friend to take my picture with a stack of the newly released books inside Powerbooks in Greenbelt. However, we were stopped and politely informed that it’s against the bookstore’s policy.

I asked why, because I wanted to understand the reasons behind such a policy. Of course, security is probably one. But are there other reasons? Ms. Riza Poso, a Powerbooks staff member, said the management didn’t want the interiors of the bookstore to be “exposed,” a confusing term if I ever heard one. Dissatisfied, I pressed harder for an explanation, but, unfortunately, none were forthcoming. I reassured Ms. Poso that I am willing to respect their policy but I wanted to know why.

It was so deflating to be told not to take pictures. And the feeling was further aggravated later. I saw a newspaper article accompanied by pictures how a popular bookstore chain in New York allowed their customers to take pictures galore. So my request is not that strange. As a matter of fact, it seemed to be part of the marketing of the New York bookstore.

Ms. Riza Poso and Ms. Laureen Tecson, a Powerbooks marketing associate, promised to get back to me regarding the matter. Sorry, no reply yet.

worried about getting exposed? Doesnt being a store, that’s open to the public, grant them all the exposure that they’re friggin scared of? ridiculous

I don’t even like Powerbooks at all. Are they that scared of having their interiors copied? I might as well go to Fully Booked, where it is a lot homely and cozier.
