Disney Pixar Agreement Crashes with Cars Release

Disney Pixar's CarsAccording to a news article, Steve Jobs, the head of Pixar, has stated that, “After 10 months of trying to strike a deal with Disney, we’re moving on. We’ve had a great run together — one of the most successful in Hollywood history — and it’s a shame that Disney won’t be participating in Pixar’s future successes.”

However, it doesn’t mean Pixar and Disney won’t be dealing with each other ever again. Under the Co-Production Agreement, Pixar has the option to “co-finance and produce such products or to earn passive royalties on such products” like “theatrical sequels, made-for-home video sequels, television productions, interactive media products and other derivative works related to the Pictures.” However, “any theme park revenues generated as a result of the Pictures” are excluded.

In turn, Disney head Eisner graciously responded regarding the situation, “We have had a fantastic partnership with Pixar and wish Steve Jobs and the wonderfully creative team there, led by John Lasseter, much success in the future.”
