Storytelling at Disney Christmas Wonderland
The children shopping with their parents at Rustans Shangrila Mall on the 26 and 27 of November 2005 had the added treat of joining in the storytelling that was sponsored by Disney.
It started with a trivia game that introduced some of the characters from the Disney movie, Chicken Little, which opened 30 November 2005, namely, Chicken Little, Runt of the Litter, Ugly Duckling and Fish Out of Water.
The children had fun making the corresponding animal sounds as I told the classic tale of how Chicken Little thought the sky was falling and how he rushed to tell the king about it, while meeting his friends along the way.
Next was a trivia game where I sang snippets of Disney princesses’ songs and the children had to guess which Disney princess sang the song, the title of the song and the title of the movie from which it came from. They were up to the challenge as they said the answers correctly, which ranged from lengthy titles such as ‘A Dream is a Wish your Heart Makes’ from Cinderella to brief responses such as ‘Reflections’ from Mulan.
And then, based on a Disney animation short, ‘Belles on Ice,’ I garnered the help of four kids to recreate a friendly rivalry between the famous inhabitants of Disney World— Donald Duck with Daisy Duck and Mickey Mouse with Minnie Mouse. A dance showdown ensued with the audience choosing the best pair in the end.
As a finale, I brought out a colorful parachute for the kids to dance with as ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town’ rang out from the speakers, reminding them of the amusing admonition that they’d better watch out because Santa Claus is going to find out who’s been naughty or nice.
