McDonalds Sundae Standard (Ire)
At 11.15pm on 28 November 2005, a friend and I went to the recently opened 24-hour McDonalds branch in Ortigas, which also housed a Shell gas station, and ordered a couple of hot fudge sundaes. However, examining one, I noted that the amount of sundae in the cup was not its regular quantity. Knowing McDonalds’ fantastic customer service, I confidently requested for them to add more ice cream.
I was taken aback when the girl preparing our orders gave me a fulminating glare, but proceeded to add hot fudge to our order. I corrected her by clarifying my request, at which point the cashier intervened and said that our order will be delivered instead.
Studying the delivered hot fudge sundaes, I knew that it was still not up to scratch, basing it on more than a decade of eating the creamy dessert. Requesting for the manager, we asked Mr. Eric Herrera to ascertain for us the standards of making a hot fudge sundae, which he stated to be 3 ½ turns and a full dollop of hot fudge.
I have observed that if the server is skillful, the ice cream should touch the sides of the cup’s circumference, and the resulting artful tip to be just a little bit above the cup’s top. Asking Mr. Herrera to examine the hot fudge sundaes, he confirmed that our findings to be correct, and we requested again for our order to be redone, but only if a different person did it.
And, my friend brought up the fact that the serving girl did not behave by McDonald’s friendly customer service standards, and I quietly but heatedly added, “McDonalds is not like the other fast food restaurants. We expect more from McDonalds.”
Apparently, Mr. Herrera demonstrated for the staff personally the correct way to fill up the sundae cups, and we were gratified to note that numerous clients came in after us ordering the same creamy dessert or variations thereof, and we were confident that they received in full measure what they paid for.

Bumili ako ng hot fudge sundae sa McDo Greenhills tapos binigyan ako ng mas maliit na spoon, kutsarita na super liit at napakaikli ng hawakan.
Kaya nang sinisimot ko na yung hot fudge, napipilitan akong ipasok din ang kamay ko sa plastic cup dahil sa ikli ng handle. Syempre, nakakainis kasi nadudumihan ang kamay ko.
We passed by McDonald’s Ortigas Shell Station branch at 3.15am this Monday 02 April 2007 and found that it’s closed. So it’s not 24 hours anymore. We drove to McDonald’s Eastwood City and found the most dense and creamiest hot fudge sundae yet. Yummy!!!
