Enchanted Kingdom Forays Into Film and Publishing

Just when I thought Enchanted Kingdom is having difficulty with the advent of Hongkong Disneyland, I learn that they’re on their way to becoming entertainment moguls themselves with plans to go into TV production, film and publishing.

They began their aggressive business plan with the formal launch of Tales of the Enchanted Kingdom, a 6-part comic book series, at Powerbooks last Saturday 12 November 2005.

Creative meetings started three years ago that culminated in that moment. Dennis Cruz, the Enchanted Kingdom VP for marketing and business development, is a visionary as he hired Luna Grino-Inocian to create the back-story that will prove to be the backbone of Enchanted Kingdom’s existence.

Not merely satisfied with having 2-dimensional characters parading around the streets of Enchanted Kingdom, Dennis wisely realized that people, not only go to parks for just the amusements and rides alone, but more so because of the emotional attachment that they have for the characters that have embodied their dreams and hopes.

Thus, Luna, inspired by Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings and C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia series, the most well known of which is The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, created a world that would explain how Enchanted Kingdom’s Wizard and its denizens came to be.

The story begins with a prophecy that foretells how the greatest wizard of all will be born on the hundredth year of the seventh age in the Kingdom of Kir. However, three children were born three minutes apart at the time the signs appeared.

Hence, there is a question of who was the prophecy referring to? Is it Torian, the son of the king and queen? Is it Kiara, the daughter of a scholarly couple? Or is it Dar, the son of a simple farmer and his wife? The answer will be revealed at the 6th comic book of the series.

Luminaries from the television, publishing and political world graced the one-hour occasion that was covered by IBC-13. The three major proponents of the project, namely, Dennis Cruz, Luna Grino-Inocian, and Boboy Yonzon, head of YES!, whose company is famous for the Mango Comics label and the National Book Award winning “Darna” 50th anniversary graphic novels, were on hand to greet the guests as well as explain the concept and tribulations behind the work.

At the end, they graciously signed copies of the maiden issue of Tales from the Enchanted Kingdom—the first creation of a long line of soon to be released merchandise.
