Chuckles — The Revenge of the Chicken

Taking the Zoobic Safari jeepney through the famed dangerous open grounds where tigers roamed freely, only the bars of the jeepney separated us from the carnivorous animals. Nevertheless, we wanted to observe a tiger in action, i.e., a tiger going in for the kill.

To entice the giant cats closer to the vehicle, we bought a trussed chicken from the safari personnel to serve as bait.

The bait proved to be not that enticing, failing to coax one tigress from her soak in the water hole, and another one from his lazy snooze. Seeing the possibility of failure, I asked the guide, “Do we still have to pay for the chicken even if the tiger doesn’t eat it?”

With the possible financial loss looming ahead of him, the safari guide redoubled his efforts in his attempts to lure the giant cats. Finally, one tiger seemed slightly interested.

Tiger Jumping on Chicken Bait
Walking lazily towards our barred jeepney, the tiger nonchalantly jumped on the hapless chicken, which, in turn, reacted in a time old manner that’s known all over the animal kingdom, including the human one.

As I lowered the camera, my gaze swept over our little group, the recipients of the chicken’s final farewell — a trajectory of poo that was motivated by fear during its final moments.

My brother broke the silence with his dry comment, “Well, it seems the chicken had the final revenge. We wanted to see him eaten, and we’re now sprayed with essence of chicken.”
