Smart Unlimited Texting
Smart has finally succumbed to the market demand for unlimited text. Just like Globe, the daily rate for sending Smart to Smart SMS is P15, while the rate for 2 days is P30. However, unlike the Globe rate of P50 for 5 days or P10/day, Smart chose to price its 4 days for P60 (honestly, I don’t get why).
In fact, the consumer doesn’t really get a price discount whether he chooses to avail of the service for 1 or 4 days, because it comes out Smart is charging P15/day no matter what package is availed of.
The odd deal of the lot is the Off-Peak P30 deal, which is separate from the unlimited text of P30 for 2 days. The main difference between them is the registration time.
By the way, the inconvenient step of the registration procedure is that you must register from 9AM to 5PM and 11PM to 6AM only. With the Off-Peak P30 package, which is also good for two days, you can register anytime, but you will be penalized by the curbing of your unlimited text to the off-peak hours of 11pm-6am. But to soften the blow, you are allowed to send 40 SMS during the peak hours.
In effect, it’s like you’re getting 10 free SMS, under the assumption you need to text during the peak hours, so it’s still better to apply for the service if you register between 6:01am-8:59am or 5:01pm-10:59pm.
Although you can register anytime for the Off-Peak package, why do so unless you missed the regular time slots? Instead of 40 SMS you can get unlimited. Therefore, the timing of your registration is crucial.
