Cheap Eats — S.R. Thai Cuisine
|
S.R. Thai Cuisine- The innocuous front hides gustatory delights in this Katipunan branch. |
|
Complimentary Spicy Soup- Although it looks like Nido soup, and most probably is, the tinge of spice makes it a cut above the daily fare. And it’s free! |
|
Bagoong Rice- The famous Thai bagoong rice with the mango strips and slightly sweetened pork is simply yummy at P80. |
|
Phad Thai Noodles- With this huge serving, it’s hard to believe the requisite noodles can be had for only P80. |
|
Thai Spring Rolls-Cellophane or sotanghon noodles and ground pork combine into these spring rolls that are dipped in a sweet and spicy sauce for only P35. |
|
Shrimp in Basil Leaves- Delicate shrimp sprinkled on top of a hearty serving of rice is simply filling at P70. |
|
Chicken in Pandan Leaves- Oops! There are supposed to be 4 pieces, but I devoured one before my friend was able to remind me that I had to take a picture of this P80 staple. |
S.R. Thai Katipunan is about 250m from the corner of Katipunan and Aurora Blvd in Quezon City. Take the LRT 2 for a fast ride, or the jeepney for a smokey (meaning pollution) ride. At a brisk pace, from the corner of Aurora to S.R. Thai would probably take 5-8 minutes.
Look for Cravings and McDonalds, because the resto is very near these landmarks, as in, if you’re coming from Aurora you’ll come upon S.R. Thai before Cravings.
There’s only 3 slots for parking in front, and you will unlikely be allowed to park on the service road. Ask the guard if you can park at the back where there’s a row of apartments. Just tip him afterwards.
The décor is unpretentious and plain, with 6 long orange tables lined with benches. The area nearest the door serves as a magazine rack with up to date magazines, like they had the latest Cosmo issue. Service is genial but not that friendly. That’s okay, the Thai food that’s been adjusted to the Filipino palate more than makes up for it.
S.R. Thai Katipunan is open Mondays-Saturdays 9am-9pm. You may call 436.8818 for questions or inquiries.
There’s also a Sampaloc branch at G. Concepcion St. with telephone number 781.4715, with operating hours 10am-10pm Mondays-Saturdays. Sorry, I’ve never been there, but, hopefully, the prices are the same.
Happy eating!

This post made me hungry! :p Can you take me with you when you do your food reviews?
Hi, Ms. Lorna! I heard about this website from Sr. Ley. I live at their dorm in Sampaguita St. Just [wanted] to tell you that this is really great! The original S.R. Thai Cuisine is the one at P. Noval St. (they transfered but it’s still on the same street that’s very near UST).
Another nice resto is the one that I found last night with some friends: KKK (Kainan sa Kalye Kanluran at 74 West Ave. QC). They have good food and fair prices. What is unique about this resto is its MENU - so makabayan! They also have a cozy native ambiance.
More power!
Maricel
Thank you and I’ll try to check it out soon. - Lorna
wow!!! brings back memories when i was studying at ust 11 years ago! S.R. thai cuisine is my favorite lunch spot and seeing the bagoong rice and chicken pandan made me crave for it…. try the omelet, youll never regret it
hmmm… looks good…
Luv the food at SR Thai especially the bagoong rice. It’s good as the one i ate in bangkok sometime 2005. I live just near the resto branch they have in p. noval st., sampaloc and i frequent their place when i crave for thai food. Prices are very reasonable!
I soooo love SR! I used to dine a lot at their P.Noval branch back in college. Yummy and affordable Thai cuisine!
