Chuckles — The Noisy Ghost
While attending a Shakespearean workshop sponsored by the British Council, the participants were all privy to witness several scenes done by different groups of actors. One of the scene studies involved was a famous scene from Hamlet, that of Hamlet being visited by his dead father’s ghost.
As the actor playing the troubled prince travailed of the tragic circumstance of his father passing away, the questionable circumstance of his mother marrying his uncle soon after, and the infuriating circumstance of his own inability to do anything, the actor playing the deceased king started his long slow descent from the audience side towards the stage. Hamlet gaped at the ghostly specter and expressed his fear as well as questioned his own sanity.
Everyone was enthralled with the powerful dramatic scene, and watched with bated breath every step the king took, when, suddenly, the thick silence was broken by the unmistakable sound of a beeping gadget. To their amusement, they all soon realized the noise was coming from the supposedly dead royal, who, like any good actor, discreetly pressed a button to stop the offensive din and finished the scene as if nothing untoward happened.
