Slimmers World Great Bodies 2005

Lou BrillantesThe Slimmers World Great Bodies 2005 was formally launched on 12 October 2005 at the Republic of Malate in Manila. More than 20 buff bodies paraded their rippling muscles and magnificent physiques in a couple of production numbers, and, entertained the press people with talent segments ranging from belly dancing to impressive song numbers. Lou Narciso decided to go for a self-deprecating monologue on her attempts to lose weight.

“My mom was a big woman, so it wasn’t a surprise that I was also a big baby. I was so big that while I was being born, I really had to struggle to come out. Of course, she was screaming her head off. And who could blame her? I turned out to be a whopping 9.2 lb baby.

“Did you know that cells multiply more during the developmental years? My parents were very conscientious parents. They put all efforts into developing me, especially my mom, who happened to be a very good cook. With her help, I developed with kare-kare, adobo, kakanin, and other delicious Filipino dishes.

“Of course, being very tall myself, my 4 feet and 11-½ inch frame looked very healthy with 130 lbs on it. I looked so good people always called me cute.

“Family reunions and gatherings were also opportunities for my family to show how generous we were. For the potluck, we always brought kalde-kaldero of food to share with everybody there. We believed so much in equal sharing that we also ended up eating kalde-kaldero of food.

“Aside from eating, my brother and I were so close and bonded that he attended many of the important milestones of my high school life—my junior dance, my senior dance, my senior prom, and my high school prom.

“College turned out to be even better; people liked my upbeat personality so much that they would refer to me as a barrel of fun.

“By this time, I knew I had to change dancing partners as well, but, unfortunately, nobody was big enough for the job.

“I found the perfect activity that could take on my size and make me feel buoyant—swimming. What I really loved about it was the fact that with all my fat, it was so easy to float.

“But I had to limit myself to floating because whenever I moved, it was a different story. Instead of feeling like a water beauty like Esther Williams, I would be brought out of my daydream with the sound of “plakda” that my arms made as I attempted to swim gracefully through the water.
