Dubai — Movie Surprise
I was delightfully surprised with several movies last week, so if you’re the kind of person who can’t stand knowing the ending, then be warned—there are spoilers ahead.
Dubai is produced by ABS-CBN’s Star Cinema, and this currently showing movie stars Aga Muhlach, Claudine Barretto and John Lloyd Cruz. It focuses on a sibling’s loving relationship, Raffy and Andrew, played by Aga and John Lloyd, and how it’s influenced by Claudine’s character—Faye; in effect, a classic love triangle.
According to my friend, Mimi Orara, who played one of Aga’s OFW friends, the script originally called for John Lloyd’s character, Andrew, to die, leaving Raffy and Faye (Aga and Claudine) free to pursue a relationship.
However, while watching the movie, Raffy is revealed to be a playboy of sorts who takes advantage of Faye’s weakness—her love for him—to get into her pants repeatedly despite her requests for him to leave her alone because she knows she’s vulnerable to his sexual advances.
When Raffy’s brother, Andrew, enters the picture, Raffy and Faye are still in a sexual relationship, but a non-committed one. Andrew and Faye meet by chance, and their casual friendly relationship becomes intimate, which inadvertently leads to Faye’s pregnancy.
Since Andrew is in love with Faye, he readily offers to marry her. However, Faye realizes she is still in love with Raffy, who belatedly recognizes that he’s also in love with Faye. However, Raffy pursues no course of action but urges the two of them to return to the Philippines. At this juncture, it has already been revealed that Andrew’s dream is to immigrate to Canada.
Now what would be the expected ending? Somehow make Raffy and Faye end up together.
