Cine Europa -Free Movies at Shang Cineplex

The Cine Europa Festival started on 22 September 2005 and will culminate this weekend at the Shang Cineplex of Shangrila Mall at the corner of Shaw Blvd. and EDSA. All the films are for free and seating is on a first come first served basis. A schedule with the synopsis of the movies to be shown on 01-02 October 2005 is provided below.

01 October 2005 (Saturday)

1 pm Foreign Women (Spain)
A documentary film from Spain, it shows the lives that female immigrants have created in their new home—Madrid, and their struggles to hold on to their culture and yet adapting to a new environment.

4 pm Dying to Go Home (Portugal)
Another film about immigrants, this time it focuses on one Portuguese immigrant in Amsterdam who meets his untimely death there, and his ghost’s attempts to contact his family so that his remains can be brought back to his hometown.

7 pm Kroko (Germany)
A film about a 16 year old “bitch of the hood” named Kroko, it shows her realizations about family, friendships and life when she is “sentenced to do community service in a home for the disabled.”

10 pm I Love to Love (The Netherlands)
A romantic comedy where a young woman named Anna professes to swear off men after a painful break up, but immediately falls in love with two men who, unknown to her, happen to be roommates.

02 October 2005 (Sunday)

1 pm Millions (United Kingdom)
The most interesting sounding film of the lot, this UK film is directed by the well known director of Trainspotting and 28 Days, which tells the story of 7 and 9 year old brothers who stumble on a suitcase full of stolen pounds, and how they learn that “true wealth has nothing to do with money.”

4 pm Dog Nail Clipper (Finland)
A crippled war veteran remains an idealist and decides to spend the rest of his life as a dog nail clipper despite the inherent dangers involved.

7 pm Faithless (Sweden)
A love triangle develops between a husband, his wife and his best friend, which creates tangled webs with disastrous consequences.

10 pm Dying to Go Home (Portugal)
