Chuckles — Bribing Style of a 3 Year Old

As a mother, my friend was very concerned about what her two daughters ate. In an attempt to be more health-conscious, she banned junk food from their diets. However, unknown to her, the children’s yaya could not resist her charges, especially the younger one. When the 3 year old decided to use her round pleading eyes and charm, the yaya would sometimes sneak in junk food for her.

One day, my friend looked for her younger daughter with the help of her older daughter—a 7 year old. Being more familiar with her sister’s hiding places, she soon found her sibling crouched in a closet—hurriedly finishing off a forbidden bag of junk food.

Despite her inability for coherent speech, the younger sister found a way to communicate with her ate. Wordlessly, she held out the junk food—an obvious attempt to bribe her into silence about her wrongdoing.

Understanding the silent offer, the eldest dipped her hand into the tempting package and was soon imitating the frenzied eating that she just recently saw. And as soon as her share had been demolished, and all evidence of her recent activity had been consumed, the ate trumpeted triumphantly, “Mommy, I found her! She’s eating junk food in the closet!”

Of course, the younger child got reprimanded by my friend, not knowing at the time that her other daughter was guilty of the same.
